We live in the largest democratic country in the world and have over 50 news channels reporting events and actions. However, I still believe the media is dictated by powerful individuals who take the shot in this country. It is still hiding information which concern general public. Taking an example, there are still many black holes in the ongoing prosecution against Raja over the the 2G scam. With new networks popping all over India, it is respectable debate with regards to creating value of many. Raja's prosecutors claim that his action were always in the interest of general public and that he intended to bring the cost of mobile communication down through competition.
Another case where I was really disappointed was the resignation of Shashi Tharoor from the post of Indian Minister of State for External Affairs. Did he play a role in the Kochi IPL team or was he just a mediator to bring IPL to Kerala. The answer remain unanswered and out of embaraasment, Mr. Tharoor was asked to step down from the government post. It was indeed a great loss but I guess we shall never know, since the media was unable to get under the story.
